Geoffrey Farmer

Lives and works in Vancouver, Canada

Born in 1967 in British Columbia, Farmer attended the San Francisco Art Institute, California (1991-92) and the Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design, Vancouver, British Columbia in 1993.

Farmer is known for his cumulative, research-based projects, which result in large-scale, multi-media installations combining video, film, performance, drawing, sculpture, found objects and texts. His work is based on complex readings of specific narratives from popular culture and is continually revised and adapted from exhibition to exhibition.

In the year-long project Every Letter In The Alphabet, Farmer is commissioning, gathering and producing a wide variety of text-based works for distribution in and around Vancouver. The work centres round a project space in the city with an exhibition space and reading room.

Farmer has had solo exhibitions at the Drawing Room, London and Spacex, Exeter in 2007, Witte de With, Rotterdam, the Musée d’Art Contemporain de Montréal (2008) and the Catriona Jeffries Gallery, Vancouver 2010. He has participated internationally in group exhibitions including The World as a Stage, Tate Modern and ICA Boston (2006/7), the 16th Biennale of Sydney (2008) and Museo Experimental El Eco, Mexico City (2010).
